An exhibition and auction of  works donated by British & international artists to raise funds for the Helen Bamber Foundation

5 - 7 May 2009 at

Maddox Arts, 52 Brook's Mews,

London W1K 4ED

Robert Speight was born in 1947 and spent the first few years of his life in South Africa where his father worked for a large international company.

After returning to England , and finishing his secondary education, he read medicine (to please his parents).

Immediately after qualifying, he completed his Foundation course at St Martin 's School of Art , followed by the Central School of Art from which he graduated after three years as a full time student.

From that time onwards he combined medicine and art. Worked for many years as a GP three days a week and painted the rest of the time. During a sabbatical year he did a one year full time teaching course at London University in order to switch careers and become an art teacher.

Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for his patients, he did not get a job teaching art and returned to work as a GP until his retirement two years ago.

He now paints almost full time - he is still involved with medicine for the homeless. He travels to Norway often where he and his family have a house.

He has several solo exhibitions at the Boundary Gallery and he has exhibited regularly and successfully in Norway .

This work was donated by Agi Katz and the Boundary Gallery
