Christine
Hatt makes visual texts. She has exhibited at the Annely Juda Fine Art and
East International galleries, and received the Vordemberge-Gildewart award. A
former External Examiner for the BA in Fine Art at Goldsmith's College
(2002-2204) she is now Course Leader for MA Drawing at Wimbledon School of Art.
Current
Research
Christine
makes art from lists of words, letters and numbers, seeking new knowledge
through visual and textual innovation. Her material is drawn from everyday
minutiae. She accumulates abbreviated and coded data - telephone numbers,
people's names, times of appointments, addresses, birth dates and private
acronyms - to produce a schema of the residual co-ordinates of her life. This
stream of data is then edited and re-notated, allowing meanings and identities
to unfold and accrue. "What I am recording," she explains, 'are the
systems by which we navigate both our quotidian and inner lives.' The resulting
visual texts are matrices which may be realised in various physical forms. She
is currently engaged in completing her book The Missing Year, a complete data
